Odysee Is A Terrible Video Platform
In theory, Odysee is great. It is open source. It is based on the blockchain. It is decentralized, thus it is censorship resistant. Odysee even has a fun vibe compared to the more sterilized YouTube and Vimeo and others. On top of that, it lets you earn crypto through views.
There is even a feature to post a video totally anonymously, as seen below.
The thing, though, is Odysee is missing some very ubiquitous features present in many, even underperforming, and old video platforms.
For example, there is no way to make a video private in Odysee. Making a video private is useful when making edits on the thumbnail and the description, or even the video file itself. One can also upload a video beforehand, make it private, and be able to instantly release the video at the appointed time.
Tied to the video privacy issue or even stems from it, scheduling a video is very limited. Well, only backdating is possible, there is no future scheduling at all.
Notice future dates are blacked out. The latest time that it can be posted is “Now”.
This results in videos not being able to be prepared for release on a deadline. So if an uploader’s internet fails, one may miss a deadline. Of course, one can backdate the video to give an illusion of making the deadline or release date.
Odysee is a great blockchain platform, but it is not a great video platform.
